SIX-FOUR Plays Riley and Stockhausen

17 Mar 2017, 5:00pm - 7:00pm

Karlheinz STOCKHAUSEN: Plus-Minus #14 (1963)
Terry RILEY: In C (1964)

This exciting new student-led ensemble presents a wildly contrasted program featuring two iconic 20 th century works, each written within a year of the other. Although totally different in aesthetic ,both Riley’s “In C” and Stockhausen’s “Plus-Minus” require the performers to act as “co-composers” and complete the musical jigsaw. Both works have an open instrumentation and no defined duration and are constructed from instructions and motifs rather than a through-composed score. SIX-FOUR aim to present contemporary classical music to new audiences, through concerts curated with a specific relationship between the works and – through doing so - to allow them to discuss and explore contemporary music with a general audience, and make the music and its concepts more accessible.

Admission: Free, booking essential. Please book via EventBrite.

Venue: Melba Hall, Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, Gate 12, Royal Parade, Parkville, 3010
