Graduating dance students at the Victorian College of the Arts who have been studying under four leading Australian guest choreographers this semester will present their season works from the 12 to 17 November in Southbank.
The choreographers include Rosalind Crisp (VCA artist in residence, French Biennale Nationale de Danse du Val-de-Marne), Stephanie Lake (Chunky Move, Stompin), Brooke Stamp (BalletLab, Chunky Move) and Anna Smith (TasDance co.motion).
VCA Dance Undergraduate Coordinator Associate Professor Jenny Kinder said the choreographers were outstanding dance artists. “The opportunity for our students to work with them has brought a great deal of excitement,” she said.
Associate Professor Kinder said the award-winning guest choreographers were highly beneficial to enriching the learning experiences of students.
“The experience of working with professionals of such calibre gives our graduating students a real edge as they transition into their professional careers. They expose the students to a range of influences and ensure that they experience different types of physical investigation and diverse and rich movement languages.”
Ms Geraldine Cook, Head of the School of Performing Arts, said the season provided an excellent opportunity for Melbournians to experience VCA students’ skill, enthusiasm and artistry. “Once their studies are complete many of our students will travel and forge careers in Victoria, inter-state and abroad,” she said.
The dance season performances also includes first, second and third year production students working in various creative and backstage roles.
